You can help protect your community’s land and water from invasive species through an Invasive Species Microgrant. Recognizing the importance of working together to prevent invasive species, the Invasive Species Centre has issued a call for applications to the Invasive Species Microgrant Program. Invasive Species Microgrants support community action and education to prevent the spread of invasive species that harm Ontario’s environment, economy, and society.
With support from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), the Invasive Species Microgrant Program will provide 45 projects in Ontario with $1,000, one-time grants. Interested groups in Ontario (e.g., municipalities, Indigenous communities and organizations, non-profit or charitable groups, universities, colleges and schools, clubs, and associations) can nominate themselves for a microgrant.
“With the Microgrants, we are able to support communities across the province in protecting their natural spaces from invasive species,” says Sarah Rang, Executive Director at the Invasive Species Centre. “Combined, these efforts have a large impact and do a lot to move the needle on invasive species prevention and management in Ontario.”
The Microgrant Program is looking for projects that:
- Do on-the-ground invasive species control through community action and engagement
- Prevent the spread and establishment of invasive species in Ontario
- Increase awareness of invasive species through education and outreach activities and programs
Interested applicants can submit an online application by Friday, August 19, 2022. Visit the Invasive Species Centre website (www.invasivespeciescentre.ca/grant-opportunities) for more information.
