The Ontario Phragmites Action (OPA) program is an exciting new effort to enhance a coordinated response to invasive Phragmites across Ontario. The program has been made possible thanks to an important new investment from Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources and is implemented by the Invasive Species Centre, Nature Conservancy of Canada and a number of other key partners.
The primary objective of OPA is to expand collaborative action on invasive Phragmites across Ontario. We will do this by supporting the development and continuation of local Phragmites coordination groups who will have access to increased resources to expand their Phragmites mapping and control capacity. New and expanded resources will include the Invasive Phragmites Control Fund, free genetic testing services, mapping support and other key resources. Between OPA and other existing resources directed to Phragmites we anticipate an exciting new chapter in the efforts to protect the environment, economy and social wellbeing in Ontario from Canada’s “worst” invasive plant.
More information on the program will be available in the weeks and months ahead. If you are interested in receiving updates on the program and future opportunities to participate, please subscribe to our email list below.
